Sitio de Calahonda :Calahonda is situated in Mijas between Marbella and Fuengirola and is an area chiefly developed for tourism in the 60's, with extensive apartment blocks and private homes stretching from the coast into the hills behind. Since its foundation in 1963 Sitio de Calahonda has won several awards over the years including, an international award for the best Spanish urbanization for the year 2001. Calahonda is a perfect choice for those of you who wish to take advantage of the winter sunshine, and be spoilt for choice between some of the 40 top class golf courses on this stretch of the coast - also known as the 'Costa del Golf'. The beautiful ski resort of Sierra Nevada is only a 2 hour drive away - ski one day and sunbathe the next!
Its situation and southern orientation, provides the area with the unique climate in Europe and, coming from the coast of Africa, clearly visible from the urbanization, refreshing night winds. In Calahonda, not only the typical pueblo look survived, but it has flourished. The urbanization is a classic example of how to preserve the traditional splendor of Arabic Spain design, while blending it with modern touches and comforts that you desire. Calahonda is located 15 minutes away from Puerto Banus, southern Europe’s premier boating and leisure center. Malagas large international airport can be reached within 20 minutes via a fast modern highway. Sitio de Calahonda comprises several golf courses like Cabopino and La Siesta and has the typically sun-drenched beaches for which the Mediterranean is famous. Just a couple of kilometers along the road is Puerto Cabopino, which has the reputation for being the most secluded and picturesque port on the Costa del Sol and is a popular venue for tourists who want to enjoy a good meal before taking a walk along its sandy beaches. Some of the Coast's most popular restaurants, such as Albert's and Giuseppe's Pizzeria, are located here in Cabopino Port. If you travel 300m upwards into the hills of Calahonda, just past the El Portón complex, you will encounter a small Christian monument which, due to its location, stands out like a beacon; on a clear day you should be able to see the whole coast from here, including Gibraltar, the atlas mountains and African coastline.
